About Our Club

The Houston Underwater Photographic Society (HUPS) is a not-for-profit organization formed to encourage interest and participation in underwater photography and videography. At its monthly meetings, HUPS provides educational and entertaining programs, a monthly photo contest, and a convivial atmosphere of shared interests and camaraderie.

Recent programs have included a broad range of "how to's" of underwater photography, narrated slide presentations, video shows, and various special events including photo workshops conducted by recognized experts in the field. HUPS also sponsors dive trips that are designed specifically to meet the special needs and interests of underwater photographers.

"We want to explore the themes of the ocean's existence -- how it moves and breathes, how it experiences dramas and seasons, how it nourishes its hosts of living things, how it harmonizes the physical and biological rhythms of the whole earth, what hurts it and what feeds it -- not least of all, what are its stories."

- Jacques Yves Cousteau
