A new gallery has been added to the Gallery webpage at http://hups.org/Gallery%20Pages/Photographer%20Gallery%20Pages.html, which can be viewed on a mobile device such as an iPod, iPhone, Blackberry, and similar devices.

This gallery contains Monthly Photo Contest Winners, and is provided so that members have access to these photos on smart phones and similar devices.  Complete photo contest entries and winners will continue to be available on the Contest page, but these slideshows require Adobe Flash compatibility, which many smart phones lack.

To see this gallery on your smart phone, go to the Gallery page on the HUPS website and select Mobile Device Web Gallery.

If you have any feedback, please e-mail hupsweb@earthlink.net.

Works on my iPhone, but I don't know that I'd use it cause its a bit clunky still.  If there were some sort of image scrollers or next/previous buttons when looking at the images would make it much more user friendly.  I'd also see about not using spaces in the URLs since that's what's generating the %20 in the links.

Maybe if we had a short link (hups.org/mobile and only kept the current month's shots on in the mobile device format to keep things simple.  Just suggestions is all. Smiley

Since Jim developed the "mobile-friendly" version at my request, I will help him pick a better html format to display the photos on a smart phone or iTouch, which will have the image scroll/next/previous buttons, as well as identifying the photographer. I agree, Ken, that it needs to be more "user-friendly" to be a viable means of showing off HUPS photography. And, since most major photo sharing sites are going to a "mobile-friendly" version for viewing photography, I thought HUPS could be ahead of the curve. This was just a, what you call, "beta" version, and we will see more improvements after the first contest for 2010.

Greg, it works great on my iTouch but not so great on my Blackberry Bold. However, it works great on Jim's BB Curve. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

KH,
I just upgraded my version of http://www.avsmedia.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx today and I'm hoping that this software may allow me to convert the files a little more freely to do this with little effort. Once we have the January meeting and pictures are posted, I want to practice on the mobile version as I'm curious. That said if I can make it a simple conversion from flash to 3G then we are in business. (I hope) I think my BB is a curve as well and to go from one picture to the next you have to reposition each image since it always goes back to the upper left corner of the page. Any other input on this subject is appriciated.

I have revised the format for the mobile gallery, so that it may look better and be easier to navigatge on your mobile device.  Note that when you click on a thumbnail and a larger image has loaded, there will be three small arrows located on the edges of the image.  The arrows point left for the previous image, right for the next image, and up for returning to the index page of thumbnails.

You should be able to either pick the file you want to view from the index page, or page through all of the images with the arrows.
