This month's topic:
Anemones & things that live in them

Brief Description:
Just like it says. To qualify, an anemone must be in the shot. The "things" (clownfish, crabs, etc) are optional.

I can't decide which way to go in this month's contest.  Should my main subject be the 'anemone' or should it be 'things that live in them'?

When I first read this topic, I thought of shots that featured complete or almost complete anemones - because anemones themselves do make great subjects.  But the more I thought about it; I bet that more people will submit photos of the critters that live in an anemone and that will become the theme.  Too many people have macro photos of shrimp, clownfish, crabs, etc, that just show a very small portion of the anemone.

The topic description says 'an anemone must be in the shot' but it doesn't say 'the whole anemone must be in the shot'.  I wish that descriptions given for the contest topics were more specific.

Even though the subject is "ANEMONES," and it says, creatures that live in the anemone are optional, the vast majority of entries will have the usual . . . clown fish, crab, shrimp, etc. Recently, I have seen some absolutely beautiful sea anemone photos. I would love to see a "stand alone" anemone photo win!

Well crud!  It just occured to me that the July HUPS meeting has been over for about 4 hours and I never sent in my entries.   Cry  Cry  Cry I guess that means I'm officially out of the running for POTY.  Even though I was a long shot, there's no way I can make up ground unless everyone else takes next month off and I doubt that's gonig to happen!

I guess I just wanna wish good luck to everyone that's left in the running as I ponder whether I should keep entering for the rest of the year.  Huh?

Just a little upset with myself at this point for forgetting! Argh!

After reviewing the newly posted winners on the website's home page, I think the July 2010 contest should have been called, "Clownfish/Anemonefish Living in Anemones instead of "Anemones" with things living in them as "optional." Grin
