Burt Jones and Maurine Shimlock, a marine life photojournalist team, have spent thousands of hours underwater studying the fascinating creatures that inhabit the coral reefs. Their knowledge of the complex relationships that exist among marine animals has enabled them to produce a series of unique images collectively known as "Secret Sea." Their work has taken them around the world on asignments as diverse as photographing sea snakes in northern Borneo to documenting the exploration of the world's longest underwater cave in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Although they have had no formal photographic training, their work has won numerous international awards.
Through their company, Secret Sea Visions, Burt and Maurine promote underwater photography and recreational diving as a means of fostering a greater understanding of the diverse life in the planet's last great wilderness. Their goal is to use the art of photography to help preserve life in the seas. They recently moved to a secluded beach in Mexico where they swim in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean and view millions of stars shining through the coconut palms from their hammocks.
